Cctv And Guest Privacy

I’ve got a caravan at the coast which I rent never had any issues with break ins or damage from guests but other owners have been adding cctv inside and out .
I can see the advantages but worried about laws .
Any advice would be great on what I can and can not do .

Definitely not inside. Landlords can install CCTV in communal areas of shared properties provided the tenants are aware but this does not apply to caravans.

if you give notice you can do just about anything you want....
inside I would leave because you are basically saying you dont trust your tenants - which is not a good basis for a tenancy
outside - easy - it is for your (the tenants) own good
AND ( not but) you should register with the ICO AND tell the lucky tenants how to get their footage ....
As the CCTV is to be used in a non-domestic situation, registration under the Data Protection Act would be required (which involves a lot of form-filling and payment of a fee to the Information Commissioner's Office).

CCTV is useless anyway if the person who breaks into your caravan nicks the video recorder (unless, of course, the cameras are linked to a system which enables them to be viewed remotely).
So if you walk out the bedroom naked it's OK to be filmed? Are you kidding me?
I can't imagine any holidaymaker being okay with cameras inside the caravan he is renting. I wouldn't be happy if the caravan next to the one I was renting had cameras aimed at my holiday rental, and usually caravans are so close together it would be impossible for the camera not to be pointing at somebody's window(s).

o god I dont know where people get their ideas from.
Hospitals - inside, police stations inside, banks inside and sooooo - clearly it depends on the conditions and the agreement

yes inside so long as you get consent ( that is put it in the rental contract which they then sign)

The fee by the way is tax deductible against rents when you fill in your tax form which all of us do as reqd by law. Jesus).

we agree really
when they rent a holiday home they sign a contract and this can ( possibly must) be covered

and I went into a bank last week ( no contract)
where there are cameras
and when did I last go into one to rob it?

people who are up to no good will of course always use the entrance/exit won't they?
BigRooster, whether it is within the law or not - ask yourself how it may impact on anyone wishing to rent your van and move on from there.
A domestic cctv does not need to be registered with the ICO if it records footage only on the owner's property (and neighbour's property with their consent). There is no requirement for signs or anything else unless it records outside the boundary.

As Buenchico has stated, a rental property is not a domestic property and is subject to ICO rules.

and it all depended apparently on the landlord ( aka Mossad) and what the contract had said.....

Ok yes I mean let . CCTV is more for when the caravan is empty . Trust my tenants well if you rent a hotel room you don’t get vetted same with someone booking a caravan for weekend or week i Don’t no them and I just hope they respect it .
