Cctv And Guest Privacy
24 Answers
I’ve got a caravan at the coast which I rent never had any issues with break ins or damage from guests but other owners have been adding cctv inside and out .
I can see the advantages but worried about laws .
Any advice would be great on what I can and can not do .

if you give notice you can do just about anything you want....
inside I would leave because you are basically saying you dont trust your tenants - which is not a good basis for a tenancy
outside - easy - it is for your (the tenants) own good
AND ( not but) you should register with the ICO AND tell the lucky tenants how to get their footage ....

As the CCTV is to be used in a non-domestic situation, registration under the Data Protection Act would be required (which involves a lot of form-filling and payment of a fee to the Information Commissioner's Office).
CCTV is useless anyway if the person who breaks into your caravan nicks the video recorder (unless, of course, the cameras are linked to a system which enables them to be viewed remotely).

I can't imagine any holidaymaker being okay with cameras inside the caravan he is renting. I wouldn't be happy if the caravan next to the one I was renting had cameras aimed at my holiday rental, and usually caravans are so close together it would be impossible for the camera not to be pointing at somebody's window(s).
// Never inside. That's an invasion of privacy.//
o god I dont know where people get their ideas from.
Hospitals - inside, police stations inside, banks inside and sooooo - clearly it depends on the conditions and the agreement
so change that to
yes inside so long as you get consent ( that is put it in the rental contract which they then sign)
jesus - or duuuuurr - but this is AB, and the law thread does not contain a guarantee that those that answer have their braynz on when they do

noop
bad day for questions
AB is in the grip of group madness
change that to
(which involves form-filling of a simple sort and payment of a cheap fee ( around £50) to the Information Commissioner's Office, which is probably what you would have to do anyway as a lot of people think they are exempt when they are not. The fee by the way is tax deductible against rents when you fill in your tax form which all of us do as reqd by law. Jesus).

// PP - this is people renting a holiday home!! Not trying to rob a bank!//
yup
we agree really
when they rent a holiday home they sign a contract and this can ( possibly must) be covered
and I went into a bank last week ( no contract)
where there are cameras
and when did I last go into one to rob it?
oh I aint done that yet !

A domestic cctv does not need to be registered with the ICO if it records footage only on the owner's property (and neighbour's property with their consent). There is no requirement for signs or anything else unless it records outside the boundary.

As Buenchico has stated, a rental property is not a domestic property and is subject to ICO rules.

thank you Balders
actually as an aside
Do you remember David Mellor being betrayed by Antonia ('I am not a prastitoot') de Sanchez ?
( no a hundred ABers awake from their sleep and say 'no')
Mellor was videod in Arsenal strip
and discredited
he previously had stongly protested about the israeli defence force breaking the arms with stones of teenage protesters oops on viddie that is!
Mellor said 'oh hell'
Antonia ( bless!) said - oi navver, I didnt know - I am not a call girl, I didnt consent blah blah blah. I am not a secret agent. I am just a girl who wants to have fun. I know nossing
and it all depended apparently on the landlord ( aka Mossad) and what the contract had said.....
Never came to court - so we dont know the answer to that one
https:/ /www.da ilymail .co.uk/ news/ar ticle-2 271002/ Antonia -Sancha -51-mis tress-h elped-b ring-Da vid-Mel lor.htm l
(thought that as a tenant she had no say in what the landlord was doing, which I have to say I found... surprising)
I am not suggesting this is a precedent
just trying to spice up an AB thread which carries terminally gormless opinions

this is terribly bad advice
typical of AB
and doesnt cover the position where the subject says he has been videod and the household says that he hasnt
( rather common I would have thought)
and then ends with
oops this doesnt cover rent contracts
which was the subject of the original post
jesus
my understanding is that you CAN viddie communal areas AND be registered - so that the subject on application can get a copy
