New Electrical Regulations

All landlords have to have an up to date Electrical Certificate by 1st April, (I’ve only just found out about this) we have a problem our electrician wants the flat empty of tenants, which is a bit difficult as they have a Shorthold Tenancy Agreement until 18th June so can’t ask them to move before, but if we don’t get this electrical work done we are breaking the law, can anybody please give some advice

As I see it, this just needs a bit of goodwill and pragmatism

thebuilder's point was my point too.....which was why I asked if the wiring was actually unsafe or whether its just not up to code.

To The Builder, thank you for your reply, I appreciate that the electrician needs space and not have my tenants in the way (my tenants are a family with two children, a toddler and a new born), but I’m more worried about a potential fine of £30,000 if this work is not done immediately.
