Ibiza boy. I totally understand how you feel. If it were me I would challenge her. I have worked in situaion where the boss chose her staff from her friend, and the rest were not really cared about. If you work in a a shop which is part of a chain then I would be calling admin at the central office to find out your position in this. I wouldnt stand for it. If you let this...

no we have no representation at all. we just don,t get how we can be told it,s compulsory when you don,t work on sundays, how you,re about to start a holiday that day and that it,s not company wise just our store. Whats even more frustrating is that the store is closed the very next two days to relay so there,s plenty of time for a 2 hour meeting.!
my answer might not be as stupid as you think it is. Whatever the legal perspective is, would going in for 2 hrs be worse than being seen as a trouble maker or not a team player? How long have you worked there? How secure is your job? I'm not suggesting you just comply with stuff for the sake of it, but jobs are very hard to come by ATM, and if there is a choice of who goes or stays, if i was a boss, i'd probably want to keep people who'd made an effort to comply, rather than spout law at me, or get legal advice over the (not particularly) unreasonable things they ask me to do. if there's a really good reason you cant do it (rather than just dont want to) then tell her
Bednobs, i hear what you are saying but it still does not answer the question. on that Sunday 2 members of staff will start a holiday. are they really supposed to abandon it and go in for 2 hours.?
also ( as i have just checked a law site online) you are protected from sunday working if you opted out and , it says, " you cannot be treated less favorably, dismissed or disciplined. " also we are not talking about one person here either.
Sundays are Sundays regardless ...........
