Why is this allowed when people of all ages including very small children are all together in a room? Has this not been stopped now? When i arrived at the reception there were no ash trays anywhere and so i thought great, i can relax and enjoy the evening, but one of the barstaff passed an ashtray to one of the guests at the bar and the next thing half the room are after ashtrays, is the presence of an ashtray a signal for smokers to light up? No matter who is around? i am furious that I have yet again had a night ruined because i could hardly breathe.

Hiya Dot, sorry to hear you night was ruined.

I think if NO SMOKING signs are displayed people do adhere to them. I know they are trying to ban smoking in all pubs, not sure about clubs. If there where no signs up then I would imagine people would just light up. I personally wouldn't smoke around a child.

Hi Dot,

It is awful if you are having trouble breathing because of smokers' incconsiderate behaviour.

I am a smoker myself and if I am in a room with children or with non-smokers (even one) I will go outside to smoke as I would feel really uncomfortable ruining someone's else's evening.

I think the solution would be to have a smokers' room so that everybody could be catered for in all public venues like this.

Mind you, having said that, if you drive a car then you are putting much more poison into the atmosphere with carbon monoxide as evidenced by my nephew who lives near a traffic light junction and always has an asthma attack when he walks by the junction. So most people are putting people's lives at risk in some way or another.

I drive a car but I have never whitnessed anyone almost collapsing with a coughing fit after they have paid out alot of money to stand next to it in a posh outfit and new hairdo. If I had i would have moved it away from them.
Hiya all, I never smoke in the same room as my wife and kids.....they stand outside til I`ve finished
Elvis....lol....you nutter.. :)

WM what is surpsrising is how many ladies there had paid big money for a decent outfit and proper manicure, hairdo etc, and then they put a fag in their gob and try to eat a vol-au-vent at the same time! Whilst holding their pint of brown ale in the other hand, it was appalling. if it wasn't for the spoon player coming on at 10 i would have left earlier ;)

Unfortunately, Dot, my nephew is only 13 and can't afford a new dress and hairdo, but he does have to walk past the junction every day and no one moves their cars away especially at red lights. Having been rushed to hospital several times I think you are lucky not to have had the experience of running your car engine near a severe asthmatic.

And before you mention it they can't afford to move to another area.

I am a considerate smoker, I don't even smoke in my own home if there is a non smoker in the house, car drivers aren't very considerate in my experience.

WM, I know what you mean and thanks for that. But what about people who die from cancer and haven't touched a ciggy in their life......

ok southerngirl you've convinced me i will sell my car and stop work, then i can stop at home all day on here and I won't feel guilty about my car polluting everyone's life, i'll never be able to go out again either as i will be living in a hostel for the homeless and so i don't need to worry about being in a smokefilled hotel lounge ever again, well done, you've solved my dilemma.
WM.....you are using big words now..... :)...still love ya though xx
