really random thought......if there was a pile up on the motorway, say 10 cars, whos insurance covers the damage to all the cars? would the car that made the first initial impact be liable for all the cars, or would individual cars have to claim on there own insurance??

I dont know
I am sure the knock for knock rule would spring into play
That is you claim off your own insurance and then insurance co can chase whom they like and think is responsible but which they usually dont

But, would you lose you're no claims if you're not directly responsible for, but involved in the accident?
Like any other accident, you would be liable for any damage you caused to another vehicle, and any vehicle that caused damage to you would be liable for your damage as you should have been travelling a safe distance to avoid any collision. Although It would be difficult to prove who did what damamge in a pile up.
Yes, as far as I am aware, each car involved would be liable for damage as each motorist should have been travelling at a safe distance to be able to avoid any collision. Also as far as no claims bonuses go, these are no claims bonuses, not no fault bonuses, as my insurance company told me when I protested at losing my no claims bonus for theft of my car which was not my fault!
