I have made a claim for my daughters jewellery, she was wearing my engagement and eternity rings. She took them off(along with earings and a chain) to go swimming but left them in the bottom of the locker when she finished. When she went back they had gone and hadn't been handed in.
The insurance company wants me to go to a jewellery shop and replace the items. But as i am divorced i do not want to replace the engagement and eternity rings and i don't need any other jewellery, so what i need to know is do i have a right to ask for a cash payout?
It depends what your policy says. I would ring them and explain to them what you have said or you could say that you have been to 3-4 jewellers and there is nothing like the rings you have lost and that you would like to maybe like to take your time to find the right pieces.
you would have to look at your policy. If your policy is a "like for like" policy then no, they offer to replace the items you have lost/damaged. It makes sense really. You could always replace them with something you could then sell?
