we have just found out that there is asbestos in the roof space at work. the boss says there is someone coming to seal it off and make it safe, with a view to replacing the ceiling at a later date. my question is how safe is safe?

contact your local council and tell them, they will come and inspect and tell your boss how and what to have done and when.
When you said you have found out, is it due to a contractor finding it?

There are many types of asbestos, if it is organic then it is safe to be removed without going through the HSE procedures i.e. asbestos team and a 14 day notice of removal.

as long as it is damaged there is a very low risk. Most of the bad asbestos was removed years ago, well the stuff they could see, so i would doubt it would be high risk.

Is there a H&S officer in your establishment?
I didnt mean 'as long as it is damaged!' please read as 'as long as it isnt damaged'!
