Can my company disregard my sickness letter that i have got from my doctor? i have broken my fingers and have been signed of from work for at least 2 weeks, yet my manager is telling me i must attened work before the 2 weeks are up, by the way i do a manual job.

If you are signed off by a doctor you should not attend work. In fact if my staff attended work when they were signed off because they were feeling better then I would send them home again. I believe there are insurance implications if an employee returns to work when signed off as they would not covered. Check with your companies HR dept as your manager is being unreasonable or does not understand your situation..

yes totally agree with shero101. That happened to me, i went back to work as I was feeling better and they sent me home until my sick note had "expired" .They weren't covered by their inusrance for me to be on the premises.

There is no way you can go back. I snapped a tendon in my knee last year and was off for eight weeks. Although I spend my day at a desk or in a committee room, the insurers would not cover me for further injury caused by me falling down stair or something like that so I was forbidden to go back until the doctor said so. Your doctor knows and has signed you off. Your boss is not medically qualified so has to keep out of it.

I work at my dads company and his employee was signed off for 6 weeks paid, with several afternoons off thereafter for physio and he had only broken his little finger. He has returned but is only limited to light duties(he is a factory engineer)!!!

One of my friends had this happen to them - he went back to his doctor and explained the situaiton, and the doctor sent a letter to his boss telling him unless he's medically qualified and insured for my mate to do his job while fit, to stay out of it. Maybe thats an angle you could take??
