Broken leg and retuning to work
Hi all - my friend broke her leg really badly a few months ago and was signed off work - she is expecting to return in a couple of weeks, however, she does a lot of standing in her workplace - do her employers have a duty of care to do an assessment of her work place on her return to see if there is any way of making it more suitable?
Thanks.
Thanks.

She's more than happy to go back and has been wanting to go back for a few weeks, but docs wouldn't let her. She's pretty mobile, but as she stands in a lab all day, I was just wondering if the employees might be legally bound in any way to make some small adjustments to assist her. I know where I work they certainly have occ health and they have done similar things for people reurning.
Thanks for the advice.

An employer has to make reasonable adjustments if someone is disabled but not legally bound to do so if the "disability "is one that will get better in time and is unlikely to recur.
Any good employer will do all it can to get an employee back to work but on the other hand, it has to make sure that employee is fit and will not be harmed in any way by an early return to work. If in doubt, they will involve occ health as you rightly say Hapus

Cennet is correct also she should only return on the GP say so that she is ok to return to work not just because she thinks so as she may do more damage - where I work we would send her to occupational health to see she is fit to return and to advise on adjustments a broken leg would not be a frustration of contract as mentioned earlier
