I have just had my kitchen fitted, over the telephone we agreed the price of 100 a day, the kitchen took 6 days to fit. He is now asking for 1295, his reasoning being 100 a day for him and 100 a day for the 17 year old boy who helped him and only swept the floor and passed tools! I never agreed to 200 a day, do I have to pay what he is asking for? I don't know where I stand legally!

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

No pay him what you agreed and that's it, do you have anything in writing?

No we have nothing in writing - I have never heard of paying the labourer the same amount as the craftsman!
My partner is speaking to him tonight to say we are not happy with the bill but I just wanted some advice before we telephone him.
Builders quote for the job/day regardless of personel, this guy sounds like a right con man. Ask the lad if he is getting 100 per day, I think not. Just front him out, pay whats agreed and stick to your guns.

I'm definitely not paying him what he is asking for.
The lad with him even works on the weekends in another job so I doubt it very much if he is getting 100 a day!

Thanks for you help.
Best advice ~ get a WRITTEN quote prior to allowing the theiving g1ts in through the door. No arguments as it will be there in black and white (depending on colour of ink and paper of course :-).
Tell him you'll pay him what he's owed or you'll not pay him at all. Tell him also any more of his cr4p and he'll have to take you to court for the money by which time you'll have found so much wrong with his already patently inferior job that the court will find in your favour. Tell him he has 24 hours to decide if he wants the 600 or not and don't enter into any further discussion with him , a very take it or leave it attitude.
