i need to know if i need identification to take our child into ireland via ferry from scotland to belfast then car to donegal in southwest ireland

Not sure that you will actually need any identification to travel on the ferry - I suggest you read the information on their website or telephone the ferry company directly or a local travel agent - perhaps you need a map for the car - Donegal is in north west Ireland...
