Just me being nosey!!

A friend of my husbands has just been sentenced to 5 years in prison,he has a loan with the bank for about twenty grand in his name.Is the loan written off or will he have to pay it on release?He was a serving soldier but because of his crime has been booted out of the army and will be sent to a civilian prison,he was 2 years away from leaving with a pension as well so i presume he will lose that also.

He'll still owe the money, the bank may well pursue when he's out. I don't think he'll lose the pension although it will not get any contributions while he's not working

Ah-ha well,thanks for that, i will tell my husband because we thought he`d lose the pension as well,but i suppose he`ll be glad of it to pay the bank loan off,i thought that the bank would chase the wife for the money although i think they`re separated.

They'll chase the wife if it is a joint loan but otherwise not.

Thats what someone else told me,she did alright out of that then since it was her who spent the money.LOL.

he will have to notify the loan company of his circumstances,they might well suspend the loan whilst he is away or they could issue a county court order against him,but he must let them know,otherwise if payments are missed,it could cause more problems

Yeah,i think he will,my husband is planning to visit him when he`s on leave and will get all the ins and outs.Thanks.

forgot to ask,is it a secured or unsecured loan,as it makes a hell of a difference

I have got no idea,i don`t really know him that well,he was in the same regiment as my husband and was done for something to do with an illegal firearm.I think he was living in army accomodation,thats why i have never met him because i live outside,if you get me.
