I was out recently in my car and accidently clipped someone with my wingmirror as I was leaving a parking layby onto the road. As soon as this happened I stopped my car and wound down the window to speak to her (apologise and swap details) but she immediately became very aggressive, shouting at me and not allowing me to speak.

One of the things that she shouted at me was that this was a hit and run, which was impossible as I had the car stopped and my window down trying to talk to her.

Eventually I gave up and drove on and reported the incident to the police who confirmed it was not a hit and run as I stopped at the scene and she was not interested in exchanging details.

So my question is really to legal people � if she reports this incident as a hit and run, what is likely to happen, should I expect a visit from police or a letter from a solicitor?

OK, just a few points, I am going to assume that neither of you hold any details about the other, and were there any witnesses? Btw your call to the police will act (Even if only slightly) in your favour.

I dont have any details of her, she may have got my numberplate.

She had her own children with her but they were young and wouldn�t be reliable witnesses. My boyfriend was in the car with me and saw and heard everything.

I didn�t see anyone standing around watching, but there could have been, or someone could have been sitting in a car watching

if this was in or near a car park, there will likely be cctv someowhere in the area.
go back and try to find out from the security staff.

It wasn't in or near a carpark and there isn't cctv in the area.

You probably should report the incident to your insurance company.

It's probably best to forget all about it. Assuming that her car was damaged or she was injured, you are required to stop and give your details. You have done the first and attempted to do the second. If you do not do any of these things, you are required to report the accident to the police. You have done that. You have therefore done everything that the law requires you to do. The only other matter is the question of careless driving, and the police would not spend their time on it in these circumstances.

If you believe in a God, you might consider praying that this unfortunate woman learns some manners. Otherwise forget all about it.
