I partly blame the authorities for a lot of what Hardy got away with for even blind freddie knew what he was capable of.He was put in strangeways prison at the age of 15, being the youngest prisoner ever to be placed there because he kept escaping from approve schools.He had all the Phyco tendency at an early age.Cruelty to animals.Arsonist. Thuggery.Burglary.
ect.You may ask how I know all this and I will tell u.ashamedly I ran on the wild side.but never went as far as Hardy who is a gutless wonder attacking &killing young girls.Its a pity they ever stopped Hanging.I hope you get to read this oneday Trev you bast----- Roy

i have often looked for info on this man as sharon mosoph was the daughter of my mums cousin. I was only 8 or 9 when this happened and i remember my family being really shocked as they only found out when it appeared on the news. Its strange that there is not much about him as he is a serial killer. i believe he will never be released

I am writing a book covering every single 20th and 21st Century British serial killer and up until last week had never heard of Trevor Hardy or his alleged accomplice, Shelagh Farrow.

There is so little on the internet that I have registered here to ask for information from, it seems, the real people who know what I need to know, as it were!

What was the name of the "Leyden girl" mentioned above? What are the exact dates of each murder? Are there any publications which exist covering the Hardy murders? I would be so appreciative if these sorts of details could be filled in so I can cover these crimes in my book. I have a list of 80 serial killers so much of my work is up to now a slog to find the details of such little known crimes.

Please help me to fill in these details, thank you!

Hardy was questioned about the still-unsolved murder of 17-year-old Dorothy Leyden,whose body was found in April 1971 behind the Spreadeagle pub in collyhurst manchester But I dont know if they had enough evidence to charge him with this murder.This imfo can be found in may 2006 issue of True Crime Magazine.Regards Roy.

I vaguely remember another girl being found on some waste ground between oldham road and ten acre lane, some schoolkids found it in a shallow grave on the way home from school,?? not sure if she was called Driver or something like that, headless or was it a head that was found??

Beverly Driver was Hardy's friend - he claimed she was his girlfriend - she wasn't killed as far as I know.

There's ten pages about Hardy + his crimes in a book called Cause of Death: Memoirs of a Home Office Pathologist. Got book today.

Dorothy Leyden's murder was featured on Crimewatch last night 02/06/08 and it has now been proved with DNA testing that her killer was not Trevor Hardy. Just thought I'd mention it because people have linked his name to her for a long time, on this board and otherwise.

I only stumbled upon the name Trevor Hardy last week whilst watching the crimewatch programme. i found it strange that, as someone who grew up in Newton Heath, Moston area, that I have not heard of him.

I decided to ask my family about him.

From what I gather, its still a sensitive issue in that part of Manchester, and typical manchester, whatever happens in north manchester seems to be forgotten... It appears that Trevor Hardy was always a 'bad un' and there are a plethora of stories about his antics... Chasing people, stalking people and so on... There was one story, where some kid called him an abusive name from what appeared to be a safe distance... Trevor then chased said child, and he did not give up chasing... He eventually chased this kid into his own home. The kid slamming his door behind him only for trevor to kick down the door, luckily, this kids mum was around to 'shue' him out...

And another story of him stalking my uncle, who was barley a teenager, around brookdale park. My uncle, scared because he, like everyone else in Newton heath, was quite aware of the terror Trevor caused to people, made his way into the bowling area of the park.. he then told his predicament to the men who were playing bowls. They told him to "sit with 'em on a bench". Trevor then made his way into the bowling green and walked past the bench... all the while his stare focused onto my uncle. The men then decided that it would be best that he stay with them for a while until they were sure that he had gone.

Also, his dad, who was distinctive by his blue cap, used to drink in the church on Droylsden Road in Newton Heath. Nobody ever mentioned Trevor to him, and no one ever gave him a hard time as he was a 'decent' bloke.

Finally, I used to walk past that area of the lightbowne estate on a daily basis a few years ago... and to know what happend on that bit of wasteground gives me shivers...

I would just like to add to the person who posed the initial question.. That central Library in Manchester city centre should have copies of the Manchester evening news on microfiche for anyone wanting to find reports on this subject. Also, are the police statements available from the freedom of information act?
