Can I put up a camera from my house recordinging movements in the road - in order to catch the pig whose doing damage to my car? Someone told me that data protection stops you doing this?
Section 4 of that document makes it clear that your use of a CCTV is not covered by the DPA. You can therefore go ahead and seek evidence against the person who is damaging your car.

(PS: If you're still not certain, that first link has a telephone number for the Data Protection Helpline)
If whatever you want to record is in public and in full view then fire away : it's fair game. The only restriction is if you're trying to pry and point a camera into someone's property.
Thank you all for your answers - actually I would go along with redhead simply because I'm sick to death of being a target and the police can do nothing, If you have no witnesses then you're stuffed. Think I may go and live in a civilised country.
