are you in the usa.
It IS refunded - that's always been my experience
Norman's question is a relevant one. This is a UK-based site and, consequently, the answers you'll get under 'Law' will normally relate to UK law.

In the UK, there's no tax which is actually called 'sales tax'. The nearest thing we have is 'value added tax'. If an item is returned for a refund, the full cost of that item would normally be refunded (including the VAT).

It would seem logical that this policy should apply in other countries, as long as the tax is on the item and not on the act of selling it. (If a tax was imposed on making a sale, rather than on the actual goods, it's possible that the tax could not be refunded if the sale was effectively reversed by the provision of a refund).

Unfortunately, without knowing your location, it's impossible to give an exact answer.

Yes I am in the United States, Missouri actually, and the items were ordered via internet. I normally don't pay sales tax at all if ordered over the internet but I do know the laws are changing on this depending on what state your dealing with. The items were ordered from Arizonia. Would the state to state thing make a difference?
Thanks for the response.

As I've indicated, I'm in the UK so I'm certainly not an expert on US state tax laws ;-)

However, from viewing the websites of internet traders based in the US, my understanding is that you should now pay the tax which applies in the state where the trader is based. So, it's the Arizona state tax which applies. I haven't got a clue as to what the policies are about getting the tax back when the cost of an item is refunded but I know who should have the answer. If you can't get a definitive answer from the Arizona Department of Revenue, you won't be able to get it anywhere! Contact them here:
