If there was, say, an arms trade sales convention, and a protestor rang the front office claiming there was a bomb in the building, would that be a cause for the police to get involved? I mean, it'd be true...

My best guess is that the person in the front office would use their discretion. Any 'bomb' in the trade show would be de-activated or a dummy, so if the caller is suggesting an active bomb is present, then yes the police would most likely be called as an arms trade fair would be a sure target.
