Leaseholder wants to buy freehold

I've had conflicting information. The solicitor who handled the purchase of my leasehold flat last year said I had to wait two years before I could attempt to buy the freehold of my building, however I have read that there is no minimum waiting period. What is the correct position?

FYI there are three other leasholders in my building; all of whom are interested in buying the freehold.

Thanks

You are right to answer No to all questions.

Not only is it accurate to do so but being found Not Guilty at law removes any slur on your good name. That is why we have a criminal justice system.

Good luck

I bought my leasehold on my flat within 2 years of buying the property. Nothing about a waiting list was mentioned to me at the time. When I sold the flat I also sold the lease with it so if your solicitor was correct about a waiting period then by rights you shouldn't be able sell a lease with a property. I'd get another solicitor!

After emailing the people at Lease advice, they rang me to confirm I have the immediate right to buy my freehold . They did clarify you do have to wait 2 years before you can apply to extend your lease.

Cheers
