can a police officer be friends with someone who has a record

my friend is joining the force but i have a record, from yrs ago which is still unspent. can they be friends with me would you think. i think not
i dont have a problem but i think it could bring up problems

I have friends that have convictions from years ago and it hasn't stopped me or caused me any problems. I did find when I joined though a lot of my 'so called friends' stopped calling etc....and they were the ones who were not worth knowing anyway. x

Your friend joining the Police force should'nt have a bearing on your friendship.

Police are allowed to have friends outside the police force.

Yes you are. Hell, lots of Police have convictions themselves!!!!

There are some restrictions on their private lives (usually around licensing issues and secondary employment) and naturally they are not allowed to associate with ACTIVE criminals. But that's it.

When I was in the police I had a good friend who I first met
inside the local shop when he was about 15. Unfortunately it was way past closing time and he had entered via the back window. He grew up and married, had two childen and settled down. Our families became very good friends and we used to go on outings together. I only received criticism from one senior officer and I told him if I didn't talk to people with convictions , in the area where I lived and worked, I'd have no-body to talk to.

Having a criminal record does not make a person a 'criminal' by nature.

A person who lives a criminal life is an antisocial person who regards the law as something forced on them from outsiders. To the practicing criminal, such things as stealing, lying, cheating and hurting others is not wrong. They will often argue that they have been wronged by others, but are quite content to forfeit an honest life for a life outside decent society. A person with a criminal record (like myself) does not necessarily fall into this category.

Many famous people have a criminal record, e.g. Stephen Fry (read his autobiog, Moab Is My Washpot), but are decent, honest, respectable people today.

haha.. my lips are sealed on the crime but it was a retaliation crime of sorts. oh s0d it i'll tell ya. someone fraudalently took my car and stole my V5 log book and put it in their name. they then took it and made out they have brought it off me which they hadnt.
police investigated, couldnt get my car back etc despite the fact that they knew i was telling the truth.

so i blew the car up. whoops !

so got done for agrivated arson related sentence.
