Who owns an inherited property?

Hello all,
we could really do with help on this one. My partners' gran died a few years ago and left her house and possessions to her, however when she died she was seeing someone and placed specific instructions that he would be allowed to live in the house rent free until his death and that he would be paid any interest gained from her investments as a small income. This is all fine and we have never had a problem with this. That is until a friend said that we must be careful that his daughter doesn't attempt to claim ownership when he dies in a way similar to those set out in 'squatters rights'. Now, I know that with squatters rights someone must be living in a house without the owners consent whereas in this case he has been given permission to live there. Does anyone know if anyone in his family (he lives there alone) will have the right to contest my partners ownership when he dies? Finally, if he should have to go into a care home, could his children claim ownership or rent the house out to pay for his care.

If you haven't registered that ownership with the Land Registry then get that done pronto.

His family have no right to contest ownership.

They don't have the right to rent it out if he's not there - however, depending on the wording of the document allowing him to live there he himself MAY do.
