Co owned property how much am I entitled to?

I have owned a property with my ex partner since 1986, 3 years ago our relationship broke down after several years of trying to work at the relationship. I moved out, up to that point I was paying most of the bills, food etc. Since I left I have not paid anything towards the mortgage as I have had to live in a rented house. I would like to know what I can do or what I am entitled to as far as the house is concerned. I have no children, I am female and we were not married. There is a few years left on the mortgage and now after 3 years feel that its time to do something about it, an advice would be helpful, thanks

if the mortgage is in both names you are entitled to half of the property which means you will have to sell to get your equity or he will have to buy your half of the house of you
