Apart from the obvious fines imposed on a company for filing their accounts late, are there any repocussions for the Directors/Company Secretary personally for not ensuring these are filed on time and if so are these penalties automatic or are they notified by Companies House in advance?

Failure to pay a late filing penalty is a civil matter and the company is pursued through the courts for a CCJ.

Failure to file accounts is a criminal matter and the Directors/ Company Secretary are pursued through the criminal courts to a fine and/or imprisonment.

Both the civil penalty and the criminal penalty can be applied on top of each other for the same set of late filed accounts
