Why different court location.

I have been charged with an civil offence but it is being heard in another magistrates 20 miles away from the place the offence was allegedly comitted and by the prosecuting body.

Why is this?

One possibility is that many old magistrates courts were prevented from hearing certain cases where there was insufficient privacy when the 'accused' attended.Hence they are referred to another court.Something to do with the human rights act I think.

The offence has had a lot of media attention in the area. It hit the local papers twice and appeared the front page. Other people in the same boat as me have also appeared in the press and told their story. It is a contentious case of which the outcome may effect many city residents.

It's ironic as it isn't even an offence in the place I will be tried!
