My car has been carnapped!

Just been to a restaurant for something to eat. I parked on the car park at the back of the restaurant thinking it was their car park. Left the restaurant only to find that lockable bollards had been put up and I couldn't get my car out! Had to get a taxi home and leave the car there.

Apparantly the car park belongs to an insurance office a couple of doors down.

There are no signs up to idicate who the car parking was for and there are no signs to say the car park will be shut at a certain time.

Can they really lock my car in without warning?

If it's private property then yes - it's pretty much like locking the gate on their way home. nd it'll possible be monday before you get it out
Unless you're in Scotland - seem to remember how you can't even get clamped there as it's seen as theft.

Give the police a ring and see what they say

Whickerman - i've been told that they are open again at 9am tomorrow so should be able to get it then. Just wish they'd put some signs up as I wouldn't have parked there then. The bollards are the type that sink into the ground so I didn't even notice them when I parked.
did you get it back? Did you chat to the management about this? Could save some other person from getting caught out

Hi Wickerman - yes got the car back at 9am this morning. I didn't speak to anyone though. I was told yesterday that the car park belonged to an insurance company a couple of doors down from the restaurant I went to. When I went back this morning there were two insurance companies next door to each other and they were both shut! Not sure which one owns the car park or indeed who had removed the bollards.

I did however take both phone numbers so I may give them a ring on Monday!
