Cycling on Pavment
Yesterday a rent-a-cop (Police Community Support Officer) saw me momentarily (to avoid huge traffic) cycle on a pavement. I saw him in the distance pulling out his note pad and trying to get in my way to stop me. I just pedalled faster towards him and right past him, as I had my MP3 Player on I couldnt hear what he was saying.
My question is 2 fold: -
1. What is the penalty for cycling on a pavement?
2. How the hell can these people enforce this if people just cycle past them?
It was so funny him tryin to stop me and me just going round him...hahahahah!

The only child around here is you mate, using exceptional and extremely intelligent language like that. Questions are placed on here for answers, not for some moron with a chip on his shoulder to pass judgement.
The reason I was on the pavement is that my wife is pregnant was was unwell, I had to get home sharpish, got stuck in a vehicle accident and could not get past, therefore briefly mounted the pavement to get past.
Now, next time you think of wasting your time and typing out a useless comment like that I suggest you think, or is thinking out of your remit?

Spaced, if you want people to answer your question in a serious manner, it would be wise to not indicate in the original posting your utter contempt for the law in the first place. You knew it was wrong and still do. Many people say they regret doing what they did. In 41 years dealing with criminals and offenders, I have never met one who admits they were completely at fault and always ventures an excuse. Their only regret is getting caught. Matters such as this have not been rigidly enforced in the past. They can now be dealt with by Community Support Officers as an anti-social offence so following up on this will become far more common. Don't assume this man will not track you down. They have ways.
Having a pregnant wife should make you take more care of your own safety - she needs you - rather than you being killed by a lorry that you did not hear coming because you had your mp3 player on.
Also imagine how you would feel if in a few years time your child was injured by a cyclist who was illegally riding on the pavement because they needed to get somewhere quicker.
Having a child can make you grow up quickly - I hope it is true in your case as you certainly need to.

If you needed to use the pavement in order to get round the site of an accident, you should have dismounted and wheeled your bike on the pavement. I am sick to death of cyclists thinking they own the roads AND the pavements and yet when provided with a cycle path often choose not to use it. And let's not get into the cyclists jumping red lights debate........
It's quite rare to see someone not riding on the pavement round here, there appears to be no penalty for riding on the pavement in fact it's common practise. I even saw 2 of the hobby bobbies riding on the pavement the other day.
and to answer question 2, I would have just stepped to one side and booted you off your bike then wrapped it round your head!

Don't you think you lot are taking this a bit far?! Christ he only asked what the penalty was he's hardly committed the crime of the century! I would have done the same as long as there was no one on the path and you have a safe view I don't really see what the problem is and I think its quite funny that the copper couldn't stop him
ina pickle - that would be difficulut as I live and work in surrey, so not that was not me.
Gina - what other posts are you talking about? What respect? You dont know me so **** off! Use facts love!!!
Cycling on the pavement is a ******** offence. THis country needs to grow up and wake up that there are more pressing matters at hand than some dude cycling 30 feet on the pavement. get real for **** sake england!
