Does anyone have any idea of the cost of a will drawn up through a solicitors, a simple will whereby my wife and I leave to each other and when we are both gone the estate is split 4 ways, i part to a sister and the other three to charities. I have been quoted 175.00 + VAT which seems a bit steep to me, what does anyone else think

That will is not as simple and straightforward as you seem to think it is.

It will have to create some sort of trust, otherwise the surviving spouse could rewrite the will leaving everything to Tony Blair, or anyone.

The price you have been quoted seems fine.
Or even Gordon Brown. Keep up, Ethel!
Who's Gordon Brown?

Thanks for your reply Ethel
A lot fo charities (especially if they are beneficiaries) will pay for your will to be done.

Cancer research has a 'free will' service set up with a local solicitor so that over 50s get free wills - they 'hope' that people will leave them something.
