I heard that the inheritance tax has now been increased to �600,000. Is this with immediate effect or is it going through do we have a start date?

Inheritance tax is not being increased.

All that is happening is that married couples are to be automatically allowed to transfer their individual allowances to the surviving spouse in the event of the death of the first.

This can already be done with careful management of your affairs and a properly drawn up will.
