on leaving a company who supplies a company car do i have to return the car which would mean being 100 miles from home with a train ride home or can i request that the company collect the car from my home.it does not say in my contract that the car has to be retuned but i am being told it is the norm.i am on 1 months notice.
My guess is that you would have to leave the car at your company's premises. You might ask if another employee could accompany you home in the car so they can drive it back? When I left a previous employer that was how we arranged things.
If the car was initially picked up by you from work then I think it's reasonable for your employer to ask you to return their car to them. If I hire a car from a car rental firm I would expect to have to return it to them. Or if someone has a company laptop or other property i don't think it's reasonable to tell the employer to collect it from your home.
I suppose it depends whether you want to leave on good terms. As a former HR Manager, I would tell an employee they were taking the p if they tried this on me.
Of course you have to return things that dont belong to you. If you took it to extreme you could leave the car in the north of Scotland or abroad and tell them to collect it from there!
