Law on foods reduced in supermarkets

Could some point me in the right direction regarding the law on food items in supermarkets which are reduced, eg iif they are in date and reduced then the supermarket is legally allowed to sell said item, surely theres a list of dos and donts,

There is a difference between "use by" and "sell by" dates. This is the website from the governments Food Standards Agency:
