Compensation ... What do you think (part 2)

PART 2 OF MY QUESTION, CONTINUED...It's difficult for me to make calls during my working hours and had to take time out to try to resolve this prob, liasing with the Financial Advisor who assured me the original figures had been correct. I was speaking with C&G solicitors asking them to check the 'new' figures they'd given me which they confirmed they'd received from the Halifax as the shortfall amount, they also advised that without the total amount quoted to me being transferred by the completion date (2 days later) my new mortgage could not complete & I cld risk losing it. I was constantly speaking with the Halifax to try to find out why the new amount. After much investigation, it transpired that despite me not signing anything with them&verbally cancelling the Mortgage, someone at the Halifax decided to 'press the button' to activate the mortage which stated on the 1st June. The additional 3500 which they were asking from me was infact an 'Early Repayment Charge', as according to their 'records' I'd taken a new mortgage out with them on 1/7/07 which I was now transferring to another lender (C&G) on the 14/9/07. I was furious and could not believe that the Halifax had proceeded with my'new'mortgage despite me not signing anything and actually cancelling it before it started! Believe it or not, I've given this to you in short version as it actually took me all of 2 days of telephone calls with the Halifax, the Financial Advisor, Cheltenham & Gloucester and their solicitors. You can imagine my stress levels over this time were high as I thought I was going to lose my home and the new mortgage with C&G. I must say at this stage that I praise C&G and their solicitors for all their help and their patience; C&G offered to extend the completion date by a week to give me a chance to resolve this. (FINAL PART 3 CONTINUED NEXT) ...
