question about my landlord

I need to know if its illegal for my landlord to take my car away from me and i did not sign a lease or anything

Your post isn't very clear. If you haven't signed a lease or rental agreement, there doesn't seem to be any legal agreement between you. But that doesn't give him the right to remove your property. If he has stolen your car, report the theft to the police. But if you owe rent which you haven't paid maybe he's just holding it in a safe place until you come up with some money.
