Is it illegal if I instal my own central heating boiler?
4 Answers
I have an old oil central heating system in my home that needs a new boiler.
I have heard that CH systems may now have to be certificated by a qualified installer. As this is an improvement on an existing system would I be breaking the law if I installed a new oil fired boiler myself? as I am good at most DIY including plumbing.

These guys have extensive training and as a gas leak or water could potential be fatal, I would always recommend leaving this to the professionals. I consider the money for expertise to be money well spent.

The bit that you are not allowed to do is connecting up and commisioning the boiler. This applies to both gas and oil boilers. Suggest you find yourself a registered oil installer, explain the situation and he/she would probably be happy for you to do most of the donkey work, leaving him to come and connect the oil supply, check your flue installation and commission the whole lot.
