can anyone help over a contract dispute............

hi just wondering if anyone can help,i had a dongle from 3 mobile for broadband paid a month in advance and was told if it was not suitable to send it back, all done over the internet.it was'nt suitable so after a week contacted thm and they said they would send a bag to return it.2 weeks later and nothing so i rang again to be told they would get one to me,i put the dongle in the kitchen and forgot about it until last night whn someone from 3 rung and said i was in a contract until october 2009 because they had'nt recived the dongle back within 2 weeks but i had already paid a month in advance anyway and they never sent the bag i requested.i cancelled the direct debit when i rung about sending it back,i have never signed an agreement for it either thanks paul.
