Sounds strange for the police to get involved in a civil matter. You sure they were police and not just his mates?

Nope i havent made this up, this is absolutly 100% the truth, i think its absurd myself!
Question Author
Most definetly the police, who threatened to arrest me if i didnt give it back, i didnt give it back, now i have to attend the police station..
Did he own the tv? Had he paid for it?

How much is the tv worth? It does seem very odd.

Are you being accused of theft?
Question Author
Yes he had owned the tv, he had paid for it prior to myself knowing him, he had 2 houses and when he moved from the one house, he had a surplus tv, probably buy them second hand for 50 to80 on ebay...
So he gave me the tv when he moved from the second house, myself in mostly a gesture of goodwill, gave him 50 for it, but i did consider the money a goodwill gesture as i needed to get one and he gave me one...
Thanks for all the help
Yes the officers said they would arrest me for theft if i didnt give it back
hang on, if you stole it why has it taken him 7 months to call the police? did you ask the police that?
Question Author
Yes i mentioned to the police that all this happened 7months ago, they didnt seem concerned at the time span at all..

Thanks birdie
I thought the same myself, just good to have some advice..
if they are only 50 quid on ebay, i would be tempted to give it back, buy a new one for 50 quid and just make him go away
Load of old tosh

Police: Is this your ex boyfriends TV
You: No it's mine and I havent got a receipt.

End of story

I find it amazing that he police would get involved in a dispute like this

Yeah, someone has too much time on their hands!

I think ur being bullied by the police. Keep the TV as it's yours as you paid 50 for it....receipt or not....end of! If the police arrest you ur entitled to demand a solicitor. Then sue-sue-sue for all u can get......and you'll win as am sure there are plenty of people in your situation (buying things without receipts).

I can't believe police get involved with such a case! Get details of the officers name & numbers.....make a complaint to the Chief.
