My daughter has just returned from a holiday in Florida. She had a motor accident which she knows was her fault and was given a citaton by a state trooper. The accident was not witnessed by the trooper and she made no admission at the scene. The trooper was intimidating as she was very upset and insisted she signed the citation but refused to discuss with her whether she had an option of signing or not. Because she did sign it the car hire company refused to hire her another vehicle. Just out of interest, and she has no intention of arguing this, did she have an alternative to signing which seems to have been an acceptance that she was in the wrong? She is back in the UK now and will be paying the citation once it has been registered on the system.
