redundancy
2 Answers
hi all,
a freind of mine works fri, sat, sun and are all day shifts.
due to the credit crunch the company has made the weekend shift redundant due to lack of work. the company has offered alternative employment within the buisness, however this will mean working alternate days and nights. my freind has expressed to the managment that he is unable to work nights due to stress and depression and his doctor has sent a letter to the company to confirm this. the employers have said that all they can offer him is shifts and if he can not work shifts then he will have to leave.
can they do this.

The company has decided to cease a certain activity (weekend shift) but is offering some alternatives. The alternatives are not suitable to your friend so he is within his rights to decline them.
He is therefore likely to be declared redundant, as you suggest in the title of your question.
