Overcharging repairs
7 Answers
I recently had a drill repaired (albeit a specialized 'designer's'one) to the tune of 302 with the 'excuse' that the repair is under one year warranty for which I never asked. For that amount of money I could've bought a new, albeit more 'common' one. I think I'm being ripped off.Does anyone know who I can refer the matter to, as the repair Company refuses to back down.

I suggest you pay a solicitor, or sit in the queue at Citizens' Advice Bureau if you don't want to pay for legal advice.
The answers you have received are valid.
As I understand it, you accepted the quote before the work was done, you just didn't realise that the quote excluded VAT.
If you have the quote in writing and it says 250 (ish) excluding VAT you may have a case.

Archburner... you are on a hiding to nothing mate... You claim to be able to do specialised repairs yourself then complain about the cost of someone else doing the repair. It is very common for quotes to be given excluding VAT for the simple reason that a lot of companies can reclaim the VAT back. Just go down to a plumbers or builders merchant and you will find all the prices are excluding VAT.
Please stop dissing our Ethel... she is great and we greatly appreciate her very good advice... I have never known Ethel to give bad advice, she would simply not say anything if she didn't know the answer.
