Does anyone know if you have a Joint Tenancy Agreement in order to take the Landlord to Court, do you have to do this jointly or in the name of one tenant alone?
Either or both of you can raise an action against your landlord. A 'joint' (shared) tenancy agreement means that both (or more) tenants are jointly and severally liable to the landlord and vice versa. So the landlord can sue you if the other tenant fails to pay rent, and you can independently sue the landlord if, for example, the kitchen or bathroom needs repairing - or even a room that your joint tenant uses wholly for his/her self.
