i was wondering if there is any rules about using petrol tools ie gardening tools, hedge trimmers,lawnmowers ect in snow. i have a friend who works for a gardening company and is out in the snow to me it seems a bit dangerous.

hiya, i can't imagine there would be any rules, apart from the noral health and safety rules of doing a risk assessment first. Personally i cant see any extra risk of using a petrol hedge trimmer in snow than in rain or sun or wind - what were you particularly thinking was risky about that?

I imagine it could be fairly nasty if he slipped in the snow whilst operating a chain saw.

I love the idea of someone mowing a snow covered lawn!!

but you can also slip in dry, wet wind etc!

Podscouse, my hubby is a gardener for our local council and they have been sent out on the ice today to strim hedges.

Last week when the snow was bad they couldn't physically get out of the yard with the vans, but were not allowed to go home until the end of day and so were forced to sit in the yard all day. When they suggested that they take shovels and go and clear snow from the paths they were told they weren't allowed!

zacsmatser, they have "grippy" boots that can be worn in mud to make in less slippy, but I doubt there are any type of footwear that would make ice less slippy, particulrly as we have had sleet all day on top of it and due more snow tonight!
