Im 24 would love to consider becoming a cso i work in a shopping centre involving some of the security which i work with the police and community support officers. The only thing Ive got a criminal record which was 6yrs ago of common assault plus a caution 2yrs ago for procession of a class b drug. Do you think I should still try or give up now? If anyone has any advice that would be great!

We all make mistakes, but in my opinion some mistakes SHOULD bar you from certain jobs.

If you get a job as a cso with a record, I'm emigrating somewhere where they have standards. Pakistan maybe....

Well believe it or not there people in the police force with criminal records.

What - please give a little detail Lexi - my brother, a police inspector would love to hear this. When he was getting married even his wife to be had to be police vetted...

We have a PCSO who has a false leg and can barely walk straight.

By the way, I would imagine that ONE of the qualities a PCSO would need is initiative....such as finding out if someone with convictions can apply....by looking at the relevant web site.

Mrs O, you might imagine that, but at the end of the day they are one up from traffic wardens and don't have to be clever.

Postdog, one of my brothers is a policeman and I was surprised when he told me that Special Constables actually have more powers than PCSO's.
