In England and Wales, since the 24th November 2005 (i.e. the introduction of the Licensing Act 2003) there is no legal meaning to the term "drinking up time". The Premises Licence must indicate the specific time at which alcohol can no longer be sold/supplied (the "terminal hour") and a time when the public must vacate the premises (as determined by the "opening hours�). The consumption of alcohol between the terminal hour and closing is not a licensable activity and there is no set time limit for this period.
