I have started a new job, but am still working for my old employer as well on most evenings and weekends therefore have not got a P45. I know it may seem strange but cause of the work I do during the day I know my new employer would not approve of me doing this. Now he is asking for my P45, what do I do?

Say you haven't got one and fill in a P46.

You'll have to declare it as your second job for tax purposes also.

Which one will you be doing the most hours in?

The job working evenings and weekends I work more hours than the day job.

Is there anyway that I dont have to let him know I am working another job?
You don't have to tell him about your other work if you don't want to.

You just tell him that you don't have a P45 and that he just need to complete a P46 and send it to the tax office he deals with as an employer.

People don't have a P45 for all sorts of reasons. It's not an unusual thing..
I'm not sure. I haven't done this sort of work for years.

If I were you I'd phone your local tax office. They are really helpful. They wouldn't care that you don't want one employer knowing you're also working for another but they will give the exact facts on what you have to do and how to do it.

They'll advise you without taking your details.
True Rollo.....but he still needs to let the tax man know and it's on the P46 form.
When the tax office gets the P46 from the employer that tax office will contact the employee.

The employee tells the tax offgice what they need to know and then the tax office will issue a tax code for that employment to the employer. End of "problem".

The employee does not have to give anyinformation direct to the employer if they don't want to.
I know he doesn't have to declare it to the other employer. Just to the tax man.
You'll find some good information at the government website
I am going to disagree witht hte majority here. You must check your JD and contract regarding other work. Depending on what the jos are, they may have a clause either barring you from doing other work, or restricitng the types of other work you can do (for example would you want someone who was a ploiceman moonlighting as a bouncer? in my profession (nurse) someone got struck off for being photographed in her work uniform for a modelling campaign to do with hunting)
Bednobs is correct
Whether or not you tell either of your employers depends a lot on what your job is and your contract.
most companies have a declaration of interest so you have to state if you have another job as there is also working time directive and the break you should have between jobs and the health and safety aspect of you at work going from each job - a p46 also asks if it is your only employment - i have fired people for lying on these forms due to the health issue for the company i used to work for they were putting other people indanger during day job
