Claiming - Theft
My brother in law is a Carpenter, and recently had his work van broken into. There was over 2000 worth of things taken (tools mainly). He's only been back in work a few weeks due to having an operation on his stomach, stress related. Because of this operation, he didn't take the tools out of the van, (he cant do heavy lifting for aroun 4months) which he should do every night. The insurance people said that he couldnt claim because he didnt take all his tools out and put them in a proper, secure lock up. I was wondering whether the fact that he has just had an operation and can only lift light things would effect this, and whether if he said he couldnt lift the tools out of his van to put them in a secure place, would there be any way he could claim?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I get a discount on my car insurance because it is parked overnight in my garage. On the few occasions this isn't possible, I always telephone the insurance company to let them know because I know if they can find a way of not paying, they will use it.

Hi sazzie:
His insurance certificate/schedule booklet would outline exactly up to what amount his insurance company will pay out in the event of loss of contents.
Unless he had contacted them and had this altered prior to the theft, to include the value of the tools etc, he unfortunately doesn't have a leg to stand on, as they say. Sorry.
