i'd like to thank Buenchico for that great answer, forgot to mention that the accuser has now been charged with 3 accounts of section 18 with intent, i've printed off guidelines for sentencing and its of great value, for what the accuser did it looks like a sentencing range from 10-16 years, and that's for just one of the victims

With three Section 18 offences (especially if the offender has got a previous record of violence), the chances of an 'IPP' sentence are extremely high. If so, the tariff might well be something like 10 years. (It's important to remember that a 10 year IPP is more severe than a 'normal' sentence of 16 years. With the latter, the offender might be out of prison in 8 years time. With the former, the offender would be 'inside' for at least 10 years, and possibly far longer).
