Our house, in both names was put on the market. The sale has now fell through. He has moved back in and changed the locks. Every single thing in the house belongs to me. Can I legally break in and retrieve my stuff?
if the house is in both your names he cant change the locks without giving you a key
However, AFAIK and from personal experience you cannot break into your own house either
See a solicitor - you have every right to a) either collect your things and b) live there until it is sold although I realise the 2nd option may not be one for you
That's not a very nice thing for him to do to you, but breaking the law yourself is not the answer.
Get a solicitor to write to him asking if you can go on a specific day to collect your things.
smash a window & break in......tell the 'law' you lost your keys if they call. Get your boyfriend to move in - or rent to some 'muscle'. Can I send my bikers over - they love bovver ;)
I can enter the property from the 2nd floor window via next doors fire escape without breaking anything....
Just checking I could do this legally....there is no injunction on me :-)
This man owns nothing in my house....not even a cup..!!!
I started staying with my current BF because my boiler broke and we had no heating......I haven't left, much to his delight. I think it's sent my EX quite doolally....
If the house is registered with the land registry in your name you could download a copy of the deeds to prove ownership of the house, show the deeds and some form of photo ID to a locksmith and they will change the locks for you.
