My sister inlaw has recieved a bus lane charge but she is in Africa and wont return until 17th July, what can i do to stop further action being taken against her? She also advised me that she had to move into the bus lane to get out of the way of an ambulance with its blue's and two's on?
I'd be surprised if the Ambulance story will be accepted as mitigation unless there's film to support it. The decision maker may wonder why, if there was an ambulance, the ambulance didn't use the bus lane, and if cars had to move into the bus lane presumably several cars would have been caught, and any move into the buslane would have only been for short distance unil the ambulance had passed.
Although it runs contrary to many drivers' natural reactions you should not contravene traffic law/regulation to enable the progress of an emergency vehicle. Of course you should not cause an obstruction but the emergency driver has training and legal exemptions that you do not have. Dont cross red traffic lights or speed to get out of the way nor illegally enter bus lanes and box junctions - let them resolve the problem of breaking the rules, not you.
kompo, you're lecturing a lady who asked in good faith on her sister's behalf. An answer to the question would have sufficed. Save your lectures for when her sister returns, if you have to.
Unfortunately, there's not enough room under your rock for the two of us.
Kempie's posting seemed fine to me- it was relevant advice that could be useful to anyone who was reading the thread. The original poster mentioned (on her S-I-L's behalf) the presence of the ambulance which contributed to the SIL driving in the bus lane, and kempie's answer should help sofiasab1 and her SIL decide whether to use the ambulance as a defence.
I've tried to answer the question you posed but unfortunately the lecturers seem to be closing ranks in an effort to justify their rants towards you/your sister. And your sister's not even here to answer her detractors. Spineless individuals.
I hope this has not put you off any posts in the future as you will find that some of us will try to give you a straight answer without being judgemental.
Good luck to you and your sister on her return. I hope she has a favourable outcome.
I think bednobs dealt adequately with part of the question (the aspect you subsequently expanded very well); and then kempie dealt adequately with another aspect of it (an aspect raised by the poster which you didn't address).
So it has all been dealt with satisfactorily as I see it.
I don't see what your problem is.
