DEPENDS ON WHY THE LOCK BROKE. IF YOU HAVE DAMAGED THE DOOR AND IT IS ONVIOUS, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY. IF THE DOOR HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND YOU ROCKED UP ONE DAY AND IT JUST DIDN'T OPEN, THEN IT WILL BE THE LANDLORDS JOB/RESPONSIBILITY. sorry about the capitals - just relaise caps lock was on, but can't be bothered to retype. will also depend if your land is an arse or not. good luck ! x
why did you need the locksmith to start with?
Was the lock broken before you called him or did you forget your key and he had to break the lock?

Last night I was having difficulty opening it, the today it just wouldn't open at all. The locksmith said that it's a problem with the lock and it needs to be repaired
Has these been long going problem or a short term, just started thing?

If you had told your LL that the lock was giving you trouble and could s/he replace it then your LL should be the one paying for it. If you hadn't then it will be a case of your word against his/hers

Dependent on your door lock it could be pretty cheap to replace yourself anyway - Yale locks are easy anyway
Double galzed are harder of course.
Make sure you take a note of everything, phone calls, emails etc. And keep a track on what the locksmith does and what he believes caused the problem. Media URL: http://www.fastkeys.co.uk/
