New part fitted, turns out the part is faulty????

A local garage charges a customer £300 to replace a BMW brand new power steering pump,Time to do the work, approx 3hrs, the price includes the pump ( It's not BMW own pump) within a fortnight the pump becomes faulty, the car has to go back in for a replacement pump, can the Garage reclaim the labour from the parts distributor? I have my views on this & I think my Assumption is right, can anyone who is well up on this sort of problem apart from Trading Standards give me an insight please.

yes they can, assuming there is a guarentee in effect on the pump. However part suplliers and garages usually have a symbiotic relationship and they would no doubt come to an arrangement.

Hi, that was my assumption & was clarified today by our local VAT Reg garage, so if anyone has been in this situation & the garage asks you to cough up extra monies for the work that was done with new parts, tell them that the have already been paid & quote what has been stated.
