mandatory uniform purchase for cold weather work

New company policy states that we are no longer allowed to wear our own jackets while at work to protect us from the cold. Only company jackets may be worn now and we have to purchase them ourselves. Company jackets are not a required purchase however my job requires me to work outside for the majority of my shift. With winter coming my company provided tee shirt alone is not going to keep me protected from the elements of the cold. I earn minimum wage in the state of Oregon and cannot afford to purchase thier company jacket. Does this mean i will be forced to work outside in the winter weather and just have to freeze? Is there any law stating that I can wear my own protection from the cold if they do not provide it?

This is mainly a UK site, so you might not get a suitable answer here. If you were based in the UK tho, it would come under health and safety regulations, and the company would be obligated to provide suitable clothing without charging you, or alternatively, just let you wear suitable clothing of you own choice. There must be similar requirements over there surely.
