So the Metropolitan Police say that "Gang Rape" should now be called 'multi-perpetrator rape' because some community activists had previously suggested the phrase 'gang rape' had racist connotations.
Could this be the reason perhaps, why in the past when I have referred to the perpetrators of "Gang Rape" as "SAVAGES" I have also been called "racist"?

You've posted a couple of times asking whether this or that makes you a racist. Said it before, and I'll say it again - you ARE racist. The thrust of 90% of your posts points to that, in the same way you can deduce my 'left-of-centre, liberal, hand-wringing' leanings from MY posts.
When someone goes out of their way to criticise blacks, Asians and Muslims for anything (such as the brave Sikh soldier who had the 'audacity' to wear his turban as a pallbearer), most intelligent people will clock what you are...

I don't know about racist, but I think it's understandable to say that it's 'emotive' (which is, y'know, why SY has done it) - it's quite a crass word, if you think about it. And while I'm not sure if I agree with it (to be honest I care more about police doing their job than what language they use) - I can see the argument that if SY has to be dealing with that kind of thing, they should do so in a sensitive a manner possible.

Rojash: If YOU read the article you would know that the decision to USE the term (multi..etc) was made by the DCI, in other words the DCI agreed to USE the description etc..

'Jargon has been used to hide and confuse all sorts of things, that’s why Plain English Campaign was started. But using jargon clean up crime is the last thing I ever expected to see. I can see why the term 'gang rape' feels wrong. Not because of race but because we associate 'gangs' with a specific type of youth-centred counter culture - whereas gang rape just means rape by multiple people. They could be a bunch of middle-aged accountants.

The real sadness of this is that there are people in the Metropolitan Police Force (who now routinely do not attend the victims of burglary, consider that offenders who should be charged with ABH or GBH receive a fixed penalty to save on the paperwork) can afford to employ people who come up with such drivel.
I thought that with the passing of Sir Ian Blair (the most disgraceful holder of the post of Met Police Commissioner in the force’s history) that such behaviour would be on the wane. Obviously I was wrong and there are still elements among the senior ranks who spend more time consider what to call perpetrators of gang rape that actually apprehending them and seeing them successfully prosecuted.
